Slaying Giants- Sermon Series

SLAYING GIANTS

Every generation faces giants. Some are obvious. Others are much harder to recognize.

Israel entered the Promised Land facing fortified cities, powerful armies, and seemingly impossible obstacles. But some of their greatest battles weren’t just around them—they were within them.

Fear. Inaction. Compromise. Deception. Limitation.

Join Pastor Charles for Slaying Giants, a six-week journey through the book of Joshua as we discover how God leads His people to face what stands in their way, trust His presence, and move forward in faith.

Week 1 — The Giant of Fear Joshua 1:1–9

Fear has a way of making the obstacle in front of us look bigger than the God who goes with us. As Joshua stands on the edge of everything God has promised, God doesn’t tell him there is nothing to fear. He tells him to be strong and courageous because the Lord is with him wherever he goes. What fear is keeping you from taking your next step?

[Read Week 1 →]

Discover why courage isn’t the absence of fear—it’s trusting the presence of God in the middle of it.

[5-Day Study →]

Spend a few minutes each day exploring Joshua 1 and learning to replace the voice of fear with the promises of God.

[Go Deeper →]

Dig into Joshua 1:1–9, the commissioning of Joshua, Israel’s transition from Moses, God’s repeated command to be strong and courageous, and the theology behind God’s promise of His presence.

Week 2 — The Giant of Nothing Joshua 6 | 2 Corinthians 5:7

What do you do when you’ve prayed, obeyed, and kept walking—but nothing seems to be happening? Israel marched around Jericho day after day with no cracks, no movement, and no visible evidence that anything was changing. The Giant of Nothing whispers that because you can see nothing, you should do nothing.

[Read Week 2 →]

Discover why the answer isn’t simply to do something. It’s to do what God said.

[5-Day Study →]

Spend a few minutes each day exploring Joshua 6 and learning what it means to walk by faith when you can’t yet see the outcome.

[Go Deeper →]

Dig into Joshua 6, the fall of Jericho, the difference between action and obedience, Paul’s call to “walk by faith, not by sight,” and why biblical faith looks back at God’s faithfulness while taking the next step forward.

Week 3 — The Giant of Us  Joshua 7 | Galatians 2:20

What if the giant you’re fighting isn’t the obstacle in front of you—but the one living inside you? After Jericho, Israel expected an easy victory at Ai. Instead, they suffered a devastating defeat. The problem wasn’t the enemy outside the camp. It was the sin hidden within it. Achan’s confession reveals a pattern we know all too well: I saw. I coveted. I took. I hid.

[Read Week 3 →]

Discover why the answer to the giant of us isn’t more of us—it’s Jesus, a cross, and an empty tomb.

[5-Day Study →]

Spend a few minutes each day exploring Joshua 7 and learning to recognize hidden sin, surrender control, and trust the forgiveness Jesus offers.

[Go Deeper →]

Dig into Joshua 7, Achan’s confession, the consequences of hidden sin, the pattern that reaches back to the Garden, and Paul’s declaration: “It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.”

Week 4 — The Giant of Deception Joshua 9 | Proverbs 3:5–6

How do you recognize a lie when every detail looks convincing? The Gibeonites arrived with worn-out clothes, patched sandals, and dry bread—and Israel believed their story. They asked questions and examined the evidence, but never asked counsel from the Lord. The Giant of Deception doesn’t need something to look ridiculous. It just needs something false to look true.

[Read Week 4 →]

Discover why believable doesn’t always mean true—and why discernment begins with seeking God’s wisdom instead of trusting appearances.

[5-Day Study →]

Spend a few minutes each day exploring Joshua 9 and practicing ASK: Admit you don’t know it all, Seek what God has said, and Keep your yes on the table before He answers.

[Go Deeper →]

Dig into Joshua 9, the Gibeonites’ deception, Israel’s covenant and its consequences, the difference between information and wisdom, and why our ultimate hope rests in Jesus—the wisdom of God and the One who is truth.

Week 5 — The Giant of Limitations Joshua 13:1–7 |

What if the limits you've placed on yourself aren't the limits of what God can do? In Joshua 13, Joshua is old, his circumstances have changed, and there's still much land to possess. But God isn't finished with him. The Giant of Limitations takes what may be true about us and uses it to convince us of something untrue about God. Our weaknesses may be real, but they don't determine His capabilities. My gifts don't make me indispensable. My gaps don't make me insignificant.

[Read Week 5 →]

Discover why the Giant of Limitations can tell the truth about you while telling a lie about God—and why reaching the limits of what you can do doesn't mean you've reached the limits of what God can do.

[5-Day Study →]

Spend a few minutes each day exploring Joshua 13, 1 Corinthians 12, and Philippians 4 as you learn to recognize your limitations without allowing them to determine your identity, your calling, or your willingness to obey God.

[Go Deeper →]

Dig into Joshua's changing assignment, the unfinished conquest of the Promised Land, Paul's teaching about the body of Christ, and the true meaning of Philippians 4:13. Discover why Christ's sufficiency isn't a promise that we can accomplish anything we want, but that He strengthens us to remain faithful in every circumstance.

Week 6 — The Giant of Enough Joshua 24 | Luke 22:20

What happens when the greatest threat to moving forward isn't failure—but success? After years of battles, Israel finally stands in the land God promised. They have every reason to celebrate. But Joshua reminds them that receiving God's blessings doesn't mean they're finished following Him. The Giant of Enough convinces us that we've done enough, know enough, or have enough time to put off what matters. It doesn't have to convince us to quit. It only has to convince us to ease up. As we celebrate the launch of our second worship service, we're reminded that a milestone is not a finish line. Our faithfulness is a response to God's faithfulness. We don't serve to earn His victory—we serve because Jesus has already secured it. We don't have to be enough. Because Jesus is enough.

[Read Week 6 →]

Discover why yesterday's victories don't excuse us from tomorrow's faithfulness—and why the answer to the Giant of Enough isn't trying harder, but trusting the One who is enough.

[5-Day Study →]

Spend a few minutes each day exploring Joshua 24, recognizing the subtle danger of complacency, and learning to remain faithful to God without trying to earn what Jesus has already accomplished.

[Go Deeper →]

Dig into Joshua 24, the significance of Shechem, God's covenant faithfulness, Israel's call to choose whom they will serve, and the new covenant established through Jesus Christ. Discover why His finished work doesn't mean our faithfulness no longer matters—it gives us the freedom and reason to keep following Him.
